Congress Alleges Collusion Between TRS And Police

TPCC head and MP N Uttam Kumar Reddy today alleged that the TRS and the state police were colluding to weaken the Congress.
Hyderabad | 2nd January 2021
TPCC head and MP N Uttam Kumar Reddy today came down strongly on the Telangana police and the state government claiming that they were colluding with each other to create a regime of injustice and terror.

Speaking after visiting Jangaon DCC president and former Warangal DCCB chairman Janga Raghava Reddy, who is currently imprisoned in the Warangal Central Prison, the TPCC chief accused the TRS government of implicating several Congress leaders in false cases, and added that such actions were made possible by the Telangana police's support.

"A few officials of the Telangana Police behave as if they are not police officials but members of the TRS' cadre. They constantly help the party pursue its vindictive politics. It is, in part, their inaction against the excesses of the government that has emboldened the government to run the state like a personal fiefdom," he said.

Reddy warned the police officials against acting like "puppets" in the hands of the KCR government, and advised them to act as per the laws and the directives of the Constitution.

"The police force should remember that the TRS will not be in power forever. The Congress is all set to return to power in the 2023 Assembly elections. After that, we will take stringent action against all the officials who have implicated Congress leaders and cadre in false cases. We will not tolerate the harassment of the workers and leaders of our party," he added.

The Congress MP also spoke out specifically against the arrest of the Jangaon DCC president Raghava Reddy, and claimed that he had been arrested by the Kazipet police based on a false complaint lodged by a T Samaiah around two months ago.

He singled out Panchayat Raj Minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao, and condemned him for his involvement in the matter.

"Although the complainant has since realised that he should not have registered the complaint, and is even ready to compromise, Dayakar Rao conspired with some local police officials and re-opened the case. This is what led to Raghava Reddy's arrest. However, it is clear that the charges levelled against Reddy are baseless, and the arrest is entirely politically motivated. It is nothing but an illegal arrest," Uttam Kumar Reddy alleged.

The Congress leader also said that the attitude of the TRS towards the Congress revealed its (the TRS') desire to weaken the party by implicating its senior leaders in false cases.

"The unjust and repressive ways of the TRS and its greatest stooge, the state police, cannot continue. If they do no stop harassing Congress leaders, we will launch a Jail Bharo agitation across the state," he warned.

Other Congress leaders, including MP Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and MLA Seethakka, voiced their support for the TPCC chief's views, and also demanded the unconditional release of Raghava Reddy.

Earlier in the day, Uttam Kumar Reddy and several other Congress leaders, including MP Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, and MLAs Sridhar Babu and Seethakka, were stopped by the police at the Hyderabad-Warangal national highway while the leaders were on their way to Warangal. This led to a heated argument between the two groups. Some Congress workers also tried to remove the barricades on the road which led to a minor scuffle. However, in the end, the police allowed the Congress leaders to proceed to Warangal Central Jail.

Other leaders who went to meet Raghava Reddy include Balram Nayak, Konda Surekha, Gaddam Vinod, Konda Muralidhar Rao and Naini Rajender Reddy.
