Congress Says KTR Conspiring To Usurp Slum Land

Congress senior leader Marri Shashidhar Reddy alleged that IT Minister K T Rama Rao was hatching a conspiracy to usurp the Ambedkar Nagar slum land.

Congress senior leader Marri Shashidhar Reddy alleged that IT Minister K T Rama Rao was hatching a conspiracy to usurp the Ambedkar Nagar slum land.

Speaking to the media on Monday at Gandhi Bhavan, Reddy said KTR, in connivance with minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav, was conspiring to usurp land on Necklace Road by forcibly getting the people of the Ambedkar Nagar slum to vacate their houses on the pretext of the construction of free double bedroom houses there.

The slum-dwellers were earlier told by Yadav that there was a Supreme Court order disallowing the taking up any construction in and around Hussain Sagar without the SC's permission. Ambedkar Nagar falls under that. In view of this they were asked to go and see an alternative site at S R Nagar where the GHMC had taken over seven acres from the State Health Transport Organisation in 2015.

He said that then making an about turn, the local TRS leaders were now trying to get people to forcibly vacate their houses without getting the required permission from the Supreme Court.

Minister K T Rama Rao's complicity in this conspiracy was confirmed by his performing a Bhumi Puja there earlier this month, providing legitimacy and moral support for the local leaders to resort to threats and coercion. Once the slum dwellers vacated their houses and no further steps could be taken to construct houses there, the original owner from whom that land was required under Slum Development Act would legally claim that land, Reddy said.

"My allegation is that minister K T Rama Rao has conspired with the original owners for personal gains," Reddy said.

He said that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao had announced some time back that cases would be booked if false allegations are made. "If I am indeed making baseless allegations, I challenge the government to file a case against me accordingly," he said.

"There are no guidelines about how the project needs to be implemented. No notices have been served, which is highly irregular," he added. The Hyderabad Collector had handed over several lands on which slums were in place to the GHMC in August 2016, and was maintaining that it was upto the GHMC to issue notices and do the other paperwork, and the GHMC on the other hand was claiming that its job was to simply construct houses on lands which had been handed over by the revenue authorities, he said.

Ambedkar Nagar was not the only slum where they were trying to take up housing scheme without land issues getting cleared, Reddy alleged.

He demanded the state government to stop forcible evacuations, and follow the proper procedure.
