Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao expressed his deep dissatisfaction over the passing of the ordinance incorporating amendments to the AP State Reorganization Act by the Lok Sabha today, transferring the submerged areas under the Polavaram Project in the Khammam district to the State of Andhra Pradesh.
He said this was a clear cut violation of Article 3.
The Chief CM described the NDA government decision as unfortunate and undemocratic.
He said that it was unethical on the part of NDA government to pass an ordinance in this manner, just because it enjoyed a majority in the Lok Sabha.
He said that the Union government should have taken into confidence the Telangana government, and should have obtained its consent before passing this ordinance in Parliament.
He said that though his party MPs argued against this move, the NDA did not consider their objections, and went ahead.
He said that he himself requested the Union government and the President of India to change the Polavaram Project design.
The Chief Minister said that the MLAs and MPs of the BJP and the TDP should have opposed the ordinance in Parliament.
In fact, the Polavaram Project design should have been changed instead of going ahead with the passing of such an ordinance, and the issue could have been amicably settled that way, said the Chief Minister.
Even though the ordinance was passed in the Lok Sabha, the fight against it would continue, and the modalities would be announced later, the CM said.
Legal luminaries and constitutional experts were being consulted in this regard, he added. (INN)
