The
unceasing rise in the number of reported Covid-19 cases in Telangana has become a matter of concern for both the public and the state government, and has resulted in a
spate of high level review meetings on the situation.
Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar also held a meeting with the state's senior health officials at the BRKR Bhavan today to take stock of the preventive measures being taken to curb the spread of the disease in Telangana.
At the meeting, he directed the concerned officials to immediately work towards bolstering the state's healthcare facilities to enable it to handle any further rises in the number of cases.
While the officials were asked to increase the number of beds set aside for critical Covid-19 patients in government as well as private hospitals, the district Collectors were told to increase testing, intensify the ongoing vaccination drive and focus on enforcing the GOs on "Covid appropriate behaviour", including mandatory wearing of masks and practicing social distancing.
Kumar then asked that the number of Covid-19 care centres be doubled in every district, and that the private hospitals be sensitised on the judicious usage of oxygen.
Principal Secretary (Industries and IT) Jayesh Ranjan, Secretary (Health) Syed Ali Murtuza Rizvi, Drug Control Director Dr Preeti Meena, Medical Education Director Dr Ramesh Reddy, Public Health Director Dr Srinivas Rao, Technical Advisor Dr T Gangadhar, and TSHMIDC MD Chandrashekar Reddy were among the officials who attended the meeting.
Today's meeting comes after Public Health Director Dr Srinivas Rao recently highlighted the
urgent need to take drastic measures to arrest the further spread of the disease in the state.
