With the Congress and the Telugu Desam deciding to contest the by-polls for the 12 assembly seats in Telangana, the Joint Action Committee of Osmania University students has proposed to launch a Chaitanya Yatra in the remote villages of Telangana .
The JAC gave a call to the people of Telangana to elect unanimously those MLAs who recently resigned for the cause of Telangana. The Chaitanya Yatra aims to reach out to rural people in Telangana for this purpose. The yatra will be conducted in 12 vehicles in the 12 Assembly segments that will go to polls.
''We will carry on a door-to-door campaign in the rural areas to bring about awareness among the people of the Telangana region. Candidates contesting against those MLAs who resigned their Assembly seats for the sake of Telangana will be severely dealt with,'' the JAC leaders said.
The JAC members even threatened to stone such candidates to death. They predicted that Congress and TDP candidates who indeed stand for the elections won't even get their deposits back.
The Centre has constituted the Srikrishna Committee to seek the opinion of political parties and people on the Telangana issue, but the outcome of the polls will have its own impact, the JAC added.
