Buoyed by the Karnataka Assembly election results, the Telangana BJP today celebrated the "victory" by raising slogans in support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and party national president Amit Shah.
A large number of party activists and leaders gathered at the state party office at Nampally after the BJP emerged as single largest party in Karnataka, and wished each other and distributed sweets and burst crackers on the roads.
BJP supporters also burst crackers in various places in the city after watching the trends on TV.
Speaking to mediapersons, former union minister and BJP senior leader Bandaru Dattatreya said that the Karnataka election results would give a new direction to politics in the country. He said that today's results gave a clear message that the popularity of Narendra Modi remained intact in the country. He also predicted that the Congress in Telangana would face a similar fate in the upcoming elections.
State BJP president Dr K Laxman said that the party had emerged victorious in Karnataka due to the welfare schemes and the corruption-free government provided by the Modi government. The Karnataka people had scornfully rejected the Congress, and the election result was also a slap in the faces of the Chief Ministers of the two Telugu-speaking states, who had extended support to the JD(S), he claimed.
BJP floor leader in the Telangana Assembly G Kishan Reddy strongly felt his party would penetrate the other southern states, too, very soon.
