Telangana Bandh Update: Cricket Hit
Activists disrupt T-20 match at Uppal stadium, and elsewhere, Telangana comes to a halt
Hyderabad | 21st January 2010
The Telangana bandh has been quite peaceful on the whole, even as Hyderabad seems to have begun to not take the bandh calls as seriously as before. Not all stores are shut, and normal life hasn’t been entirely paralyzed.
However, there is tension at the Uppal stadium, where around 200 activists tried to disrupt the T-20 match being held, shouting for Andhra players to go back. Police were brought in to control the situation, and some arrests were made. After an assurance from the DCP, players have decided to resume their match, which will be conducted under police protection now.
Pro-Telangana students at Osmania University took out a peace rally, in response to the police-student clashes there yesterday. Students across Telangana are hoarsely screaming for all Telangana ministers to quickly resign if they really care for separate statehood of Telangana.
In the rest of Telangana, RTC buses have been completely stopped, and educational institutions, and business establishments have shut down.
