The monsoon session of the Telangana Assembly is likely to come to an end on Wednesday due to the coronavirus pandemic as several MLAs and staff of the Assembly have tested positive.
About 52 persons including many MLAs have tested positive for the virus, and the government is in no mood to continue the session any more.
Thus, despite the original decision to conduct the session for 18 days, the session may end on September 16 itself.
Speaker Pocharam Srinivas Reddy held a BAC meeting on the issue today and proposed the pruning of the session. While the Speaker and the TRS members were of the opinion that the session should be truncated due to the coronavirus spreading, the Congress and the MIM MLAs sought its continuance.
While the Congress asked for a discussion on the Krishna river water issues, the Majlis asked for a discussion on Hyderabad's problems and other issues.
But the TRS legislators stuck to their guns. In addition, Leader of the House K Chandrashekar Rao too is of the opinion that the session should be ended quickly.
The Speaker has said that he would announce the decision on Wednesday. He is likely to adjourn the house sine die as it has already passed several key bills and resolutions.
