The Telangana government has decided to name the new integrated Secretariat complex after the architect of the Indian Constitution, Dr B R Ambedkar.
Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Thursday took the decision and issued directions to officials to take steps accordingly.
Speaking on the occasion, the CM said that it would make the people of Telangana extremely happy to name their new Secretariat after "social activist and philosopher" Dr Ambedkar.
"Dr Ambedkar dreamt of unity in diversity and equality for all. The Telangana government is driven by his philosophy on ensuring equal rights for all sections in all the fields," he said.
The CM also said that he would personally write a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi asking him to name the new Indian Parliament building too after Dr Ambedkar, and pointed out that the State Legislative Assembly had already passed a resolution requesting the union government for the same.
"Because of the incorporation of Article 3 in the Constitution by Dr Ambedkar, it was possible to carve out Telangana as a separate State. The Telangana government is now governing the State with a human face, with particular care for the SC, ST, BC, minority and women communities as well as the poor upper caste people, by following B R Ambedkar's constitutional spirit," KCR said.
Meanwhile, the construction of the new Secretariat complex is progressing at a brisk pace, to meet the target of getting it ready by Dasara.
