Former Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Saturday said that it was due to the blessings of Dr B R Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution, that Telangana was achieved - through Article 3 of the Constitution.
"After a long struggle of 15 years, in which there were many sacrifices, lathi-charges, cases and jail stints, we finally achieved Telangana," he said.
KCR participated in the BRS Praja Aashirvada Sabha public meeting organized at Chevella and addressed the gathering. Speaking on the occasion, he said that on the occasion of Ambedkar Jayanti on Sunday, he was paying his heartfelt tributes to Dr Ambedkar on behalf of the Telangana society.
"We have done two things to give Ambedkar the highest respect he has received in this country. We have installed a 125-feet statue of Ambedkar. And the newly-constructed Secretariat building is named after him. In 75 years, no one has done such a thing," KCR said.
He also said that the people should have confidence that their government would support them. "That's what people want. The people of the entire State should have confidence in the government. I have said this in many meetings in the recent elections. I told them to think carefully before casting their votes. The Congress government came into being because of certain kinds of thoughts, endless promises and temptations made by the Congress party. The Congress government is in its fifth month. In not even a single case has there has been any sincere action on the promises of the elections. They do not have the skill to protect the State's resources," he said.
KCR added that the difficulties that were forgotten 10 years ago were now reappearing. "When I was in jail in Khammam, my health deteriorated and I was shifted to NIMS. We fought with our heads in the jaws of death and achieved statehood. When the State came into being, there were problems of electricity cuts, burning motors and transformers, unattainable irrigation and drinking water problems. The peasantry was in trouble. We then protected the farmers just like a chicken protects its chicks under its wings. The farmer has no caste. Whoever owns the land is a farmer. We launched five schemes to protect farmers from all walks of life. We gave them Rs 10,000 per acre under Rythu Bandhu. We have provided quality electricity for 24 hours a day without blinking. If a farmer died, we ensured that the insurance cover of Rs 5 lakh would come within a week or 10 days to his family. Similarly, the entire crop of the farmers was purchased by the government and the money was deposited directly into their accounts. We have instilled confidence in the farmers in this way," KCR claimed, and said that the Congress had however in stark contrast done nothing for the farmers in five months now despite all its promises.
