Andhra Pradesh Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha today addressed Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan's statement in which he indicated that he might need to assume the role of Home Minister if she failed to maintain law and order.
Anitha clarified that she found nothing wrong with the Deputy CM's comments.
During a review meeting with police officials from Anantapur and Sri Sathya Sai districts, she said that she would talk to Kalyan about his observations soon, and added that the police personnel and she herself should take Kalyan's words as guidance and work effectively.
She claimed that there had been no neglect of issues such as atrocities against women and the supply and sale of ganja in the State. "We have discussed with the officials the steps necessary to prevent crimes in the State," she said.
She expressed sorrow over the gang rape incident that occurred in Sri Sathya Sai district. "If action had been taken against such offenders in the past, these incidents might not have happened," she said. Acknowledging the widespread concern about rising crime in the State, Anitha affirmed that the government was committed to ensuring strict law and order enforcement.
She proposed the establishment of special courts for expedited trials for serious crimes, and said that she would bring this matter to the Chief Minister's attention.
She also said that action would be taken against individuals posting false information on the social media.
