The President of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and the Leader of Opposition in Andhra Pradesh Chandrababu Naidu today came down heavily on the ruling YSRCP alleging that the state government was routinely filing false cases against his party leaders.
He said that it had become a habit for the state government to harass TDP leaders.
He made these remarks during a teleconference with the party leaders of Kurnool district in the wake of the arrest of Banaganapalle former MLA B C Janardhan Reddy.
He alleged that the ruling party workers who first came to ransack the house of Janardhan Reddy then filed a false case against him, and asked if the police were there to protect the real criminals.
Claiming that the police had arrested eight TDP leaders on Sunday, Naidu said that six of the arrested leaders had not even been produced before a local magistrate so far.
He vowed that the TDP would fight against all the false cases legally, and said that it would go even to the Supreme Court to get justice for Janardhan Reddy.
He also claimed that the ruling party was focusing more on carrying out political attacks instead of taking steps to protect the lives of those people infected by the coronavirus and black fungus in the district.
He called upon the party leaders to hold virtual protest programs against the "atrocities" of the YSRCP.
Later, Naidu also wrote a letter to the DGP of the state Gautam Sawang on the arrest of Reddy. In his letter, he told the DGP that the police had booked illegal cases again Reddy and his supporters, and that the complainant in the "false" case and his supporters had gone to the house of Reddy to attack the latter and his supporters.
