TDP Protests Against GHMC
TDP stages demonstrations to protest 'non-functioning' of GHMC
Hyderabad | 20th September 2010
Telugu Desam Party, on Monday morning, staged a protest against the 'non-functioning' of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, at GHMC office in Hyderabad.
Party activists shouted slogans and highlighted the lack of sanitation, the condition of the city roads, improper lighting systems, and various other civic problems, during the protest.
Talking to media persons, former Mayor Teegala Krishna Reddy blamed the members of the Standing Committee for the sorry state of affairs in the city. He said that even though Standing Committee members possess more power, they were as lethargic as the Corporators.
The former Mayor also blamed GHMC officials for their reluctance to raise their voices against the allotment of work to private companies. He said that these private companies had disappointed people with their tardy work.
Turning his attention to the ruling party, Krishna Reddy alleged that the Congress had succumbed to the whims of the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen and was obeying its diktat.
The former Mayor expressed his surprise that the city was in a pathetic state despite 3 Cabinet Ministers hailing from Hyderabad. He said that if these Ministers so desired, the state of the city could have been remarkably different.
Krishna Reddy also charged the GHMC staff of taking their work lightly. He said that their failure to take preventive steps had seen tragedies like the Bholakpur water contamination deaths occur.
Reminding the people about the "glorious days of the city when it won the 'Clean And Green' award under TDP rule", Krishna Reddy said that his party had made tremendous efforts to develop the city infrastructure during its reign. He added that the TDP had put Hyderabad on the world map.
Activists of the TDP Women and Youth wings also took part in the protest.
