Claiming that the Telangana region had witnessed development only during the TDP's rule, Naidu challenges the Congress leaders for an open debate on the issue.
Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu on Monday claimed that his party never opposed the formation of Telangana.
Addressing a public meeting at Rajauli during his "Vastunna Mee Kosam" padayatra, Naidu said although the TDP never spoke against Telangana, other political parties were trying to isolate the party on the statehood issue. He reminded that he recently wrote a letter to Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh demanding all-party meeting on the issue. However, he said some groups were taking the letter in a negative manner.
Claiming that the Telangana region had witnessed development only during the TDP's rule, Naidu challenged the Congress leaders for an open debate on the issue. He also listed out various steps taken by the TDP government for the development of the region.
The TDP chief also pulled up the Centre and State Governments for having failed to address the issues concerning the common man. Stating that the government has failed to control the rise in prices of essential commodities and services, he said that the energy crisis has crippled the growth in the State. He promised that the TDP would provide immediate relief to all sections of the society if it returns to power in next elections.
Despite objection from the pro-Telangana groups, Naidu's padayatra entered the region on Monday. The TDP chief was given a rousing reception by the party workers when his padayatra entered the Mahabubnagar district from Kurnool at Sunkesula Dam on Monday afternoon. Hundreds of TDP activists and leaders including Errabelli Dayakar Rao, Ravula Chandrasekhar Reddy, Ramesh Rathod, Revanth Reddy and Ramulu welcomed Naidu, who was accompanied with his son Lokesh.
Naidu will continue his padayatra for 12-days in Mahabubnagar district. (INN)
