Pradesh Congress Committee president Botsa Satyanarayana, on Wednesday, described the Telugu Desam Party and the YSR Congress as "family parties".
Addressing a by-election campaign in Kadapa district after paying tributes to social reformer Mahatma Jyotiba Phule, to mark his 186th Jayanthi, the PCC chief alleged that the "family parties" would not work to protect national interests, and that they would only serve their families' selfish interests.
He claimed that unlike the Telugu Desam Party and the YSR Congress, the Congress was a national party, and that it is run by freedom fighters and leaders to protect national interests.
He came down heavily on YSR Congress president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy for his rationale behind continuing his Odarpu Yatra despite the death of former chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy 2 years ago. He accused Jagan of continuing his Odapu Yatra only with an eye on the Chief Minister's post.
Describing the former chief minister YSR as an asset of the Congress, Botsa Satyanarayana said that he would not criticize YSR in the by-elections campaign as it would prove costly for the Congress. (INN)
