Former minister and BRS MLA Harish Rao today reacted to a series of suicides by police personnel in Telangana, and tweeted that it was a matter of grave concern that the police, who were supposed to save the lives of the people, were taking their lives continuously. He asked whether the State government did not care when the police were committing suicides in a row?
He also said that the State government's negligent attitude towards meeting the demands of the police personnel like reduction of their work pressures and fulfillment of their pending promises was adversely impacting the police.
An SI in Mulugu district, a constable's family in Siddipet, an SI and a woman constable in Kamareddy committed suicides in recent times. In a fresh development the family of a police constable in Sircilla and the head constable in Medak's Kulcharam committed suicide within a short span of time.
The BRS MLA appealed to the State DGP to conduct a departmental inquiry into the suicides so that the truth can come to light.
"The State government should conduct counselling with psychologists to prevent suicidal ideas among the police personnel," he advised. He also suggested to the police, "You have worked very hard to get the police jobs. Don't betray the trust of your family members and parents in you. I am advising you not to lose your precious lives."
The BRS MLA also said that the society would be safe only if the police, who were supposed to save the lives of the people, performed their duties with confidence.
