BRS leader and former minister Harish Rao today filed a petition in the Telangana High Court seeking the quashing of a criminal case registered against him at the Punjagutta police station.
In his petition, he alleged that the case was registered against him on the basis of a complaint lodged with political motives, and added that false cases were being filed against him to tarnish his image.
He urged the court to issue a stay order instructing the police to not to go ahead in the case.
Rao also sought quashing of the case, and a direction to the police to not to arrest him.
For the uninitiated, it is alleged that the phones of the Opposition party leaders and officials were tapped during the BRS' regime. Several key officials have already been arrested in the case.
In connection to the tapping, a case was registered against Rao on the basis of a complaint lodged by Siddipet Congress leader Chakradhar Goud. Goud complained that Rao had tapped his phone and harassed him.
The Punjagutta police registered the case against Harish Rao on December 1. The police also included the name of former task force DCP Radhakrishnan Rao in the FIR.
