The Supreme Court today rejected pleas to postpone the Telangana Group 1 mains examinations.
A three-judge bench led by Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud ruled that under the current circumstances the exams would proceed as scheduled, with the first test set to begin at 2 pm on October 21.
This decision brought relief to many candidates who have been preparing for the exams, although it left others who had sought a postponement disappointed.
The Supreme Court's verdict is a key development for the Telangana government, as it allows the exams to move forward without further delays. Some candidates had argued that the GO 29 would disadvantage those seeking reservations, but the government asserted that no group would be adversely affected. Ultimately, the court dismissed the petition to delay the exams.
Shortly after the ruling, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy took to his official X account to wish Group 1 aspirants good luck, urging them to remain calm and focus on their exams. He expressed hope that they would succeed and contribute to the rebuilding of Telangana. His message has since gone viral on social media.
Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President Mahesh Kumar Goud also welcomed the decision, calling it a positive step. He commended the Supreme Court for supporting the Congress government's efforts to secure high-ranking jobs for Telangana's youth. Goud encouraged candidates to seize this rare opportunity that had come after a 13-year wait, and pursue prestigious positions. He extended his best wishes to all aspirants, and urged them to stay composed and secure a bright future.
Goud also said that the GO 29 would not harm those seeking reservations, and criticized the BJP and BRS saying that they were using Group 1 candidates for political gain.
