The State government and the TSPSC today received a blow in the High Court.
A division bench of the High Court today upheld the verdict of the single judge bench in the issue, and ruled that the State government should once again hold the Group 1 preliminary exam.
The division bench said the TSPSC had failed in conducting the Group 1 prelims in a transparent manner. The court took strong exception to the non-installation of biometrics at the exam centres. It opined that 50,000 candidates who had written the exam the first time did not appear for it the second time as they had lost faith in the system and the TSPSC.
This happened when the Advocate General of the State said that 2.83 lakh candidates had written the Group 1 exam in October 2022, and that 2.33 lakh candidates wrote the exam the second time. The High Court noted that 50,000 people had not written the Group-1 exam on the second occasion, and asked why there was a problem with getting biometrics done for 2.33 lakh people the second time when they were done for 2.85 lakh people the first time.
The Advocate General tried telling the division bench that the petition was filed by just three candidates, and that it was not fair to ask for the cancellation of the entire test for them. He also said that it was the decision of the TSPSC to use or not use biometrics. However, the bench did note agree with the arguments of the Advocate General, and upheld the verdict of the single judge bench.
