Telangana Health Minister Etala Rajender today expressed concern that many economically disadvantaged people in the state were unable to access high-quality medical services.
The minister inaugurated a program of the Telangana chapter of the National Integrated Medical Association along with Manakondur MLA Rasamayi Balakishan.
Ruing the fact that despite great development in the fields of science and technology, many people were still deprived of good healthcare facilities, Rajender highlighted the need for subsidised healthcare in the state.
"Despite development in the fields of science and technology, which has led to great improvements in the healthcare sector, the poor still cannot access good medical services. They are unable to afford the increasingly expensive costs of such services. Most good doctors also work in pricey corporate hospitals, and therefore are inaccessible to the common man," he observed.
Urging the doctors of the state to subsidise their services, Rajender said, "The poor people of the state face huge problems while seeking medical attention due to these reasons. Keeping this in mind, the medical fraternity should think of providing low-cost healthcare to the disadvantaged as this will benefit scores of people."
At a pulse polio vaccination program elsewhere in Hyderabad, the minister assured the journalists of the state that they would soon be given the Covid-19 vaccine, and that the state government had already urged the Centre to make the arrangements for the same.
