BRS leader and former minister Harish Rao today alleged that the Central and State governments were targeting and harassing opposition leaders and legislators.
He also alleged that the ED and IT raids being carried out in the country were to subjugate the leaders of the opposition parties.
Addressing media persons after meeting party MLA G Mahipal Reddy and his younger brother Madhusudhan Reddy on Friday in the wake of the ED raids at the house of Mahipal Reddy, Harish Rao said that neither money nor gold was found illegally in Mahipal Reddy's residence, showing that the raids were just an intimidation and a harassment tool.
"Everything is clear including IT returns, with accurate details. There is not a single mistake. Why are they still carrying out attacks?" he asked.
He alleged that in the State, too, the Congress government was trying to bring the opposition MLAs into its fold by filing illegal cases against them, just like the union government.
Commenting on the defections of the BRS leaders to the Congress, he alleged that the ruling party leaders were encouraging the defections.
"The Congress manifesto had said it would not encourage defections, and would cancel the memberships of MLAs who switched sides. But now the same party is encouraging defections. Our movements are being targeted through intelligence and phones. Ruling party agents are roaming around the houses of the BRS MLAs. If the MLAs don't listen, they are being threatened with cases and attacks. The people have given the Congress the authority to implement its promises, not to harass the opposition," Rao said.
