Multiple BRS leaders reacted triumphantly to the Telangana High Court's verdict today directing the Assembly Speaker to take a decision on the defecting BRS MLAs within four weeks.
MLA and former minister T Harish Rao said, "We welcome the High Court's decision regarding the disqualification of defected MLAs. This ruling is a significant setback for the Congress' undemocratic practices. It clearly shows that those who switched parties cannot escape disqualification."
"The High Court's decision is a victory for democracy and a strong stand in upholding the values of our Constitution. We trust that the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly will follow the court's directive and act promptly to safeguard democracy by making a decision within the next four weeks. By-elections in these constituencies are now inevitable, and we are confident that the BRS will emerge victorious," he added.
Senior BRS leader Dr Sravan Dasoju too expressed his gratitude to the High Court of Telangana for delivering the judgment.
Sravan said, "This significant ruling is a befitting tribute to Bharat Ratna Rajiv Gandhi, the visionary leader who championed the Anti-Defection Law to preserve the integrity of our representative democracy. It is the responsibility of the Indian National Congress to now ensure that Revanth Reddy, the leader of the Congress in Telangana, respects the judicial process and refrains from actions that could undermine the legacy of Rajiv Gandhi."
"This court directive reinforces the commitment to transparency and adherence to democratic norms. Upholding constitutional values, democracy and the sanctity of the electoral process, and respecting the voters' mandate, is crucial at this juncture," he added. "And in the light of this historic judgment, it is morally imperative for the defecting MLAs to voluntarily tender their resignations before the Speaker renders his decision."
Danam Nagender, Kadiyam Srihari and Tellam Venkat Rao will be the three BRS MLAs impacted by a decision, as they defected to the Congress and had the BRS complaining to the Speaker against that.
