This year's Srirama Pushkara Pattabhisheka Mahotsavam was performed after 12 years, as is customary.
The announcement of this event was made on Vaikunta Ekadasi last year. As part of the auspicious event, Abhishekam to the presiding deity, with the holy water of all rivers in India, is performed.
According to religious heads, the Pushkara Pattabhishekam was actually performed once in 60 years (in every 'Prabhava' naama samvatsaramu) but it was later decided to conduct it once every 12 years, to enable more people to experience the event.
With the Governor visiting the temple, Warangal Range Inspector General Chouhan were deputed to review security arrangements in the Bhadrachalam. About 3,000 security personnel were deputed to maintain law and order and to prevent untoward incidents, and for the smooth conduct of the mahotsavam.
Vedic pundit China Jiyar Swamiji and Vibhishana Sharma chanted the mantras for the mahotsavam. (INN)
