TRS Boycotts Meeting

Telangana Rashtra Samithi Prsident K Chandrasekhar Rao said that his party would boycott the meeting called by centre to discuss Srikrishna Committee Report.
Hyderabad | 2nd January 2011
Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Prsident K Chandrasekhar Rao said that his party would boycott the meeting called by centre to discuss Srikrishna Committee Report.

Accusing the centre of trying to create chaos by inviting 2 representatives from each party at January 6th conclave to discuss the Justice Srikrishna Report before it was made public, Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) President K Chandrasekhar Rao on Sunday stated that the TRS would boycott the crucial meeting.

Talking to media persons after a politburo meeting at Telangana Bhavan on Sunday, KCR said that the presence of 2 representatives from each of the 8 parties at the crucial conclave would see divergent views coming out in the open, leading to chaos and giving a chance to the centre to delay taking a decision on the crucial issue of the formation of Telangana state.

He said that the TRS would attend the meeting only if one representative from each party was invited. This, he said, would lead to each party being forced to adopt a clear stand on the issue negating any possible divergence of views.

The TRS chief reminded that earlier all-party meetings on the contentious issue had seen divergent views being aired leading to confusion instead of finding solutions.

KCR stated that he was pained to reject the invitation by the centre to attend the all-party conclave, but the TRS had taken this decision so that it could stop the centre from making the issue more complex.

Reminding that his party had already made its stand clear to the Srikrishna Panel on the need for the creation of Telangana, the TRS chief reiterated his demand that the centre should stick to the statement made by Union Home Minister P Chidambaram on December 9th, 2009, and also introduce a bill on the creation of Telangana in the Parliament.

Disclosing that the issue was discussed threadbare in the politburo meeting held at the party headquarters on Sunday, KCR said that all the members were unanimous in their view that it would be better to boycott the January 6th conclave rather than giving the centre an opportunity to delay taking any action.

He also disclosed that he had written a letter rejecting the invitation.

The TRS chief also refused to take questions about the contents of the Srikrishna Report saying that it had been already submitted, and it was only a matter of time before it was made public. He added that it was not proper to talk about the report by merely listening to speculations.
