Shankaramma, the mother of Srikantha Chary who is believed to have sacrificed his life for the cause of Telangana statehood, joined the Congress at Gandhi Bhavan today.
Civil Supplies & Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy and other leaders welcomed her into the Congress fold with a shawl.
Speaking to media persons, Reddy acknowledged Chary's ultimate sacrifice for Telangana's statehood.
He also noted that Shankaramma had previously worked with the BRS for a long time, and had even contested against him in the 2018 Assembly elections from Huzurnagar. However, he emphasized that there had never been any personal animosity between them.
Reddy said that with Shankaramma joining the Congress, the BRS was now almost hollowed out in Huzurnagar.
In her speech, Shankaramma expressed her discontent with the BRS, alleging that she had faced injustice within the party, which led her to join the Congress. She credited Congress leader Sonia Gandhi for granting statehood to Telangana, acknowledging the sacrifice of her son Srikantha Chary. She urged everyone in Telangana to vote for the Congress.
