Nalgonda MP and former TPCC president N Uttam Kumar Reddy, and his wife former MLA Padmavathi Reddy, have vehemently refuted rumours that they were leaving the Congress to join the BRS.
In a joint media statement on Saturday, the couple strongly condemned the rumours, attributing them to a Congress leader who held a significant position within the party.
Uttam Kumar Reddy said that he was proud to have served the Congress loyally for 30 years continuously, winning six consecutive elections without losing a single one after 1994. He added that his wife Padmavathi Reddy had been an MLA from Kodad, and lost the 2018 assembly elections by just a few hundred votes. She was currently living in Kodad and working for the people there to the best of her ability, as well as for the Congress as a Vice President of the TPCC. The couple did not have children and worked 365 days a year for the party and the public with the highest level of integrity and commitment, he claimed.
He alleged that his wife and he had been the target of completely false and defamatory stories for the past two years. He said that these stories had been deeply painful and had been part of a targeted campaign to undermine his position in the Congress, and eliminate his associates and followers.
The Congress MP said that while he was unhappy with certain issues and developments in the party, he would follow the due process of internal democracy in the national party and would not speak about them to the press or in any outside forum. He also said that he had never met or spoken to Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao in private. He also claimed that he had no business, contracts or land dealings with any government.
The Nalgonda MP said that the media / social media reports that might be leaving the Congress and joining the BRS were false and without any basis.
"A couple of Youtube channels and media houses closely associated with a Congress leader have been publishing false, defamatory stories about me and my wife resigning from the Congress and joining the BRS, which have caused us deep pain and anguish. The leader holding an important position in the party is spreading these rumours to undermine my position in the party and to lower my prestige in the public. I condemn these rumours, which are totally false," Uttam Kumar Reddy said.
Reddy claimed unwavering dedication to the Congress and the public, and urged the media and the public to disregard the rumours.
