Following increase in the mess charges, all pre-matric welfare hostels and post-matric departmental attached hostels will have a revised menu from Sunday.
All hostels across the state will have a special menu based on the enhanced diet charges which come into effect from Sunday. The heads of departments of all welfare departments have already been communicated about the guidelines for the special menu.
The District Collectors have been asked to instruct all nodal and monitoring officers of hostels to visit the hostels, make a night halt on Sunday, and interact with the students to review arrangements for the revised diet schedule. They were also asked to put in place a mechanism to streamline the administration of hostels and evolve a method to obtain feedback from the hostels on the implementation of the revised menu.
The Social Welfare Department said that an effective mechanism needs to be put in place to monitor the attendance of students in hostels, and payment of cosmetic and other charges. This is the first time that government has considerably enhanced the diet charges commensurate to the rising costs of food, vegetables and gas. All welfare departments are in the process of computerising the hostel management system, the Principal Secretary said. (INN)
