After a modest revival following a week-long lull, the southwest monsoons are set to advance over parts of North Telangana and interior parts of Rayalaseema in the next couple of days, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The northern limit of the southwest monsoons has made little progress since Monday, and the monsoons are currently hovering over the Andhra coast. Andhra Pradesh has not experienced any significant rainfall in the last 24 hours.
The progress of the southwest monsoon current, which had hit Kerala in the last week of May, was stalled last week due to the formation of the super-cyclone Phet over the Arabian Sea.
The IMD reports that there is a possibility of an upper air cyclonic circulation forming over east-central and adjoining west-central Bay Of Bengal in the next 48 hours.
Weather department officials had earlier hinted that the monsoon would gather pace from June 8 onwards, as a new system would develop over the Bay of Bengal and help push monsoon currents into the peninsula.
Early rains in the state are being looked forward to, as they will boost the Kharif sowing of paddy and oilseeds.
