The Telangana government will kickstart its Rs. 1,000-per-month pension scheme for eligible single women in the State on April 1, Finance Minister Etela Rajender said.
While releasing water from the Sriram Sagar Flood Flow Canal into farm fields in Karimnagar, the Finance Minister said that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao took the innovative decision in order to extend a helping hand to distressed single women.
He said that the government was spending Rs. 30,000 crores on the welfare sector and the Rs. 1,000 pension was a part of it. Several single women in rural areas were leading pathetic lives, and the pension would help them to a greater extent, he said.
The State government was taking up similar various welfare schemes to cater to the people's needs, he recalled.
Rajender fumed at the Opposition for allegedly trying to create hurdles in the path of the State's development. He said that unlike the previous governments that benefited only their Party activists, the TRS government was offering benefits only to the deserving.
