The two-day written test for recruitments to the posts of police Sub-Inspectors went off peacefully across the state on Sunday.
Of the 17,884 candidates selected for the exam, a total of 16,971 appeared for the written exam held at 6 centres.
Over 17,000 candidates will be competing for 1,293 SI posts in the arms of Civil, Armed Reserve and AP Special Police (APSP) in the state police department.
Police had made elaborate arrangements for the smooth conduct of the exam, especially in view of protests and threats from pro-Telangana organisations who demanded the postponement of the exam by over a month.
The exam went off incident-free at all the 11 centres in the 6 zones - Visakhapatnam, Eluru, Guntur, Kurnool, Karimnagar and Hyderabad.
A total of 913 candidates abstained from the written test. While 321 candidates out of 4,774 were absent at BHEL Centre, 249 out of 3,918 were absent at Karimangar, 70 (out of 1,447) were absent at Guntur; 104 (out of 2,468) were absent at Eluru; 87 (out of 2,343) were absent at Visakhapatnam, and 75 candidates our of 2,934 skipped the exam at Kurnool centre.
2 cases of copying were reported from BHEL Centre and Eluru.
The results for the exam are likely to be announced in the next 3 months. (INN)
