As many as seven persons will be elected to the Telangana Legislative Council very soon.
All these will be from the ruling TRS, as six of the seats are under the MLAs' quota, with the TRS commanding a brute majority of 103 of the 119 seats in the Assembly, and the seventh being from the Governor's quota.
The MLAs' quota seats fell vacant following the expiry of the terms of the former MLCs Gutha Sukhender Reddy, Kadiyam Srihari, Neti Vidyasagar, Fareeduddin, Nodakunti Venktaeswarlu and Akula Lalitha in June this year. The Election Commission did not hold elections to these seats in the normal course due to the coronavirus, and only recently issued a notification for the elections.
Gutha Sukhender Reddy and Kadiyam Srihari are likely to be re-nominated. Reddy had also worked as Chairman of the Legislative Council during his term.
There are many contenders for the remaining seats. Former Chairman of the Telangana SC and ST Commission Errolla Srinivas is aiming for a seat under the MLAs' quota. He has reportedly urged the CM to consider him. Srinivas had worked as a politburo member of the party besides as the state president of the TRSV.
The hopeful of the Nagarjunasagar Assembly seat ticket Koti Reddy too is actively trying to get a ticket. The name of veteran TRS leader Takkalapally Ravinder Rao is also being considered by the CM.
KCR is also reportedly considering the names of former Assembly speaker S Madhusudhana Chary and former minister L Ramana under the BCs' quota.
And the OSD of KCR Desapati Srinivas is also a hopeful.
Meanwhile, TRS leader P Kaushik Reddy's nomination for the MLC seat under the Governor's quota is still pending with the Governor. Keeping that in mind, the CM is reportedly planning to nominate Reddy for a seat under the MLAs' quota, and nominate Sukhender Reddy under the Governor's quota.
