Senior Telugu Desam Party leader K Yerrannaidu on Wednesday warned the state government of serious consequences if anything happens to the health of party president N Chandrababu Naidu, who is staging
hunger fast pressing for better relief package for rain-hit farmers in AP.
Talking to media persons at NTR Trust Bhavan, the senior leader said the party workers and the Naidu family were worrying about Naidu's health.
He wondered why the state government was reluctant to take a decision in favour of farmers, "especially when many farmers have committed suicides due to indifferent attitude of government".
"How many farmers should commit suicide before the Congress, which portrays itself as champion of farmers' welfare, decides to revise the paltry relief package?" Yerrannaidu questioned.
He asked chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy not to be adamant and to start focusing on farmers' problems and change his stand vis-à-vis the demanded relief package.
The senior TDP leader also criticized Congress MPs for not raising the farmers' issue in Parliament effectively.
