The Saroornagar police filed a case against the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) party chief Asaduddin Owaisi for offering legal assistance to the alleged ISIS members arrested by the NIA recently in Hyderabad.
The case registered under Section 124-A of the IPC was filed after advocate K Karuna Sagar moved court against the MIM leader.
The police filed the case upon being directed by the Ranga Reddy District & Sessions Court to do so.
The police have said that they were also directed by the court to submit an official inquiry report by the end of this month.
"Asaduddin Owaisi's attempt to side with terrorists tends to boost the morale of anti-national elements and extremists. The MIM chief is directly or indirectly supporting the ISIS, even after it had made a video threatening to target India. This is treason against the nation," Sagar said.
The five suspects were arrested in Hyderabad last month for their links to ISIS, and for allegedly planning a series of explosions in the city.
