15-yr old Ramavati Lalitha, who was attacked with acid by her jilted lover Subba Rao on April 7 in Tenali, succumbed to her injuries at the government general hospital yesterday.
Women's organizations, shocked at the outcome, demanded that the accused be given capital punishment. Various Dalit association leaders demanded that a Rs. 5 lakh ex-gratia be given to the victim's relatives.
In spite of assurance from home minister Sabitha Indra Reddy that a law would be made to take stringent actions against those attacking others with acid, the number of such acid throwing cases still manages to make headlines, while the Bill is still pending at the centre.
