The Supreme Court of India today passed orders in the sensational MLA poachgate scam.
It set aside the orders of the Telangana High Court that the ongoing inquiry of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted by the State government in the issue would be monitored only by the single judge of the court hearing the pleas of BJP and the accused trio in the case, and not by any other entity, including the State government.
The apex court said that while the investigation of the SIT should go on in the case, the SIT should also be given the freedom to carry out its inquiry, and removed the restrictions and limits imposed by the Telangana High Court on the SIT.
The apex court also asked the single judge to dispose of the four pending petitions before him in the scam, within a week.
A division bench comprising Justice Gawai and Justice Vikramnath passed the orders while dealing with a petition filed by the accused in the case urging it to set aside the orders of the Telangana High Court to have the single judge monitor the progress of the inquiry by the SIT.
