Sankranthi is a big festival in the Telugu States, and in many parts of Andhra Pradesh, the festive mood is even greater. When the festival arrives, the city of Hyderabad gets pretty much hollowed out, thanks to hordes of people living in the city but originally hailing from interior towns and villages of the two Telugu States traveling to their native places.
As always, APSRTC and TSRTC have arranged special buses from Hyderabad to various parts of AP. The APSRTC is running some 1,600 special buses for the festival for those coming from Hyderabad. The TSRTC is also operating more than 1,000 special buses from Hyderabad to different parts of Andhra Pradesh. In addition, those who own vehicles (cars and other vehicles) are also traveling to their native places in them. And vehicles also moved slowly on the highway also due to fog in the morning hours.
As a result, the vehicular traffic on the Hyderabad-Vijayawada highway has increased. Traffic jams have become a common scene, and motorists and commuters suffered a lot today due to the increase in vehicular traffic on the highway. A especially large number of vehicles were stranded at the Choutuppal Panthangi toll plaza. And traffic has been disrupted at many other places due to the ongoing work on the six-lane road from L B Nagar to Dandumalkapuram.
The various bus stands and railway stations in the city have also become crowded with passengers going to rural areas of AP and Telangana.
The South Central Railway is also operating 115 special trains between the two Telugu States to cash in on the festival rush.
