The incessant rains in the two Telugu States of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have led to water-logging of most major highways. Due to this, vehicular traffic between the two States has come to a halt.
The Chimiryala river is in spate at Ramapuram on the AP-Telangana border. The flood waters from Kodada are flowing downwards, and water has deluged the national highway at Nallabandagudem. Due to this, a large number of vehicles have been stranded at the inter-state check post.
The Munneru tank in Aitavaram village of Nandigama mandal in NTR district is also flowing over the national highway. The authorities have completely stopped vehicular movement due to knee-deep flooding on the highway. As part of this, vehicles were stopped at the Chilakallu toll plaza on the Hyderabad side and the Keesara toll plaza on Vijayawada side. As a result, the highway came to a complete standstill. Nandigama RDO Ravinder Rao said that no one would be allowed on the highway till the flood receded.
Meanwhile, an RTC bus got stuck in the Paleru stream at Nallabandagudem. However, all the 30 passengers in the bus reached the shore safely.
Not everyone was so lucky. Due to heavy rains in Kodada area of Suryapet district, streams and rivulets are overflowing, and two bodies were found in the floodwaters of the town. Two cars and an auto-rickshaw were washed away in a stream near Vaishnavi School, and locals complained to the authorities that a body was found in one of the cars. He has been identified as Ravi. The second body was found in Srimannarayana Colony. The deceased has been identified as Venkateshwarlu, a teacher from Srinivasa Nagar. He was on his way home on a bike on Saturday night when he went missing in the floods. His body was found on Sunday.
