The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) is making special arrangements for people going to their native places on the occasion of Sankranthi.
It has decided to run 4,484 special buses for the purpose.
Of these, 626 services have been provided with advance reservation facility.
These special buses will be available to the passengers from January 7 to 15.
TSRTC MD V C Sajjanar held a review meeting with senior officials and RMs at Bus Bhavan in Hyderabad today to discuss the arrangements for the special buses, the implementation of the Mahalakshmi scheme in them and the facilities to be provided to the passengers.
Speaking on the occasion, Sajjanar said that all the possible arrangements were being made for Sankranthi taking into account the huge rush of passengers after the implementation of the Mahalakshmi scheme.
Special buses would be operated in crowded areas like MGBS, JBS, the Uppal crossroads, Aramgarh, the L B Nagar crossroads, KPHB, Boinpally, Gachibowli and other areas in Hyderabad, he said. Pandals, shamianas, chairs, public address systems, drinking water facility and mobile toilets would be set up for the convenience of the passengers in these areas, he said.
He added that two DVM rank officers had been appointed as in-charges for each congested area, and that they would make available the special buses for their areas.
He specified that there would be no hike in bus fares for Sankranthi, and that festival and special bus services would be operated at normal rates.
He also clarified that the free bus facility for women would also be implemented in the Palle Velugu, express, and city ordinary and metro express buses all through Sankranthi. Women however needed to compulsorily take zero tickets, he said.
