Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Friday agreed to increase the salaries of Home Guards by almost 33%.
As against the present monthly salary of Rs 9,000, the Home Guards will get Rs 12,000 from the next financial year (April 2015).
They will also get medical insurance, two uniforms per year, and free bus passes in the Hyderabad and Cyberabad police limits.
The decision comes on the eve of the Home Guards Formation Day to be celebrated on December 6.
The decision was taken in a high-level review meeting held by the Chief Minister at the State Secretariat on Friday. The meeting was attended by DGP Anurag Sharma, IG (Intelligence) Shivadhar Reddy, Finance Secretary Nagi Reddy and other senior officials.
The move will benefit about 16,000 Home Guards across Telangana.
The Chief Minister has also increased the Home Guards' parade allowance from Rs 28 to Rs 100.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister has also decided to bring the Special Protection Force (SPF), which takes care of the security of important buildings including the Secretariat, High Court, Assembly and other installations, under the purview of the DGP.
The decision was taken following a representation made by the SPF personnel on Thursday seeking redressal of the problems being faced by them.
KCR has decided to extend benefits to the SPF on par with those of other police personnel. (INN)
