Police on Tuesday resorted to a lathi-charge against activists of Osmania University Students Joint Action Committee (OUSJAC) who tried to picket the residence of Home Minister Sabitha Indra Reddy and Union Minister Of State For Urban Development Jaipal Reddy, and arrested a few of them.
The activists were demanding that the Home Minister put an immediate stop to the recruitment test for aspirants of posts of sub-inspectors till free zone issue got resolved.
The police shifted the protestors to Banjara Hills police station.
The lathi-charge left OUSJAC leader Sudarshan with a minor injury on his head. He was rushed to hospital where he was given first-aid.
The Home Minister had on Monday reviewed the security situation, and had announced that the test would not be conducted in Hyderabad, while it would take place as scheduled in other districts of the state.
This announcement, however, was not welcomed by the OUS JAC leaders who called for a bandh of all educational institutions in Hyderabad city.
In another related incident, the Telangana Students Joint Action Committee (TSJAC) tried to gherao the residence of Union Minister For Urban Development Jaipal Reddy.
TSJAC leaders told media persons that they had targeted Jaipal Reddy for not evincing any concern about the health of the 7 aspirants to sub-inspector posts who were on a hunger strike at Osmania University campus, even as their health was deteriorating with each passing day.
The protestors pointed out that the Union Minister was in the reckoning for the Chief Minister's post, but had not shown any interest in solving the issues prevalent in the region.
The leaders also condemned Jaipal Reddy's presence in a party hosted by Seemandhra leaders.
Police lathi-charged the activists, arrested a few of them, and shifted them to the nearest police station.
