Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka today announced that the State government had earmarked Rs 20,000 crore for the development of Hyderabad over the next two years.
While attending the CREDAI Property Exhibition Show at HITEX as the chief guest, he said that several initiatives under this funding had already been finalised, with many more underway.
"Such a significant investment directed solely toward Hyderabad's development is unprecedented in the State's history," he claimed.
He said that Rs 1,950.52 crore had been allocated within the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits, Rs 12,500 crore for the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) and Rs 4,365 crore for the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA).
He claimed that Hyderabad was competing not only with Indian cities but also with major global urban centres in investment, skilled workforce and quality of life.
"Hyderabad is among the fastest-growing and most investment-attractive cities in the country. This growth is not accidental but the result of decades of institution-building, democratic governance and the government's commitment to inclusive development," he said.
He added that the current progress built on the foundations laid by previous administrations, and was driven by the present government's focus on transparency, accountability and citizen-centric governance.
He described the merger of 27 adjacent urban local bodies into the GHMC as a landmark decision, enabling uniform civic services, integrated planning and a cohesive development vision within the Outer Ring Road area.
The consolidation of municipalities reflected the government's belief that urban development must be equitable and balanced, and that Hyderabad was evolving into a unified metropolitan region rather than a collection of isolated neighbourhoods, he said.
Vikramarka assured the gathering that Hyderabad would continue to be Telangana's key driver of employment, innovation and global investment while ensuring equitable growth for all sections of society.
"We are not merely building flyovers and roads. We are strengthening public trust in governance and reaffirming that the government exists to serve the people," he said.
He also reiterated the government's readiness to address the challenges faced by the real estate sector.
As per reports, under the Hyderabad City Innovative and Transformative Infrastructure Programme (H-CITI), projects worth over Rs 7,032 crore are being implemented, including 45 major flyovers, underpasses and 10 road-widening works. Near KBR Park, projects valued at Rs 1,090 crore aim to ease traffic congestion. Multi-level flyovers near IIIT and Khajaguda, built at a cost of Rs 837 crore, are strengthening the western corridor, while road works worth Rs 70 crore are also underway. In the north, alternative road networks near the Army Ordnance Centre are being developed at Rs 960 crore. In the east, flyovers at TKR College, Gayatri Nagar and Mandamallamma Junction worth Rs 416 crore will improve connectivity, while Rs 863 crore road projects are in progress in the southern parts of the city.
