Chief Minister Revanth Reddy today instructed officials to prepare a Core Urban Act to govern the functioning of the three municipal corporations - Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation and Cyberabad Municipal Corporation.
The new Core Urban Act will replace the existing GHMC Act.
The Chief Minister said that all permissions, fee structures and development works should be finalised in accordance with the Core Urban Act.
He also said that development works within the municipal limits would be given top priority in the prestigious 99-day program to be launched by the State government soon.
At a high-level review meeting on Municipal Administration and Urban Development held at the Secretariat, Reddy said that sanitation and cleanliness should be given priority in the Core Urban Area.
He instructed authorities to identify suitable locations and make arrangements for dumping garbage, as people throwing waste in open places were causing inconvenience to locals. After establishing designated dumping points, action should be initiated against those who dump garbage outside these areas, he said.
During the review, the CM asserted that special attention should be paid to road construction in the core urban area. He suggested following proper technical procedures while laying roads under the employment guarantee scheme, and fixing responsibility for the construction and maintenance of roads.
Regular monitoring of streetlights through a dashboard should also be taken up and issues resolved instantly, he added.
In view of increasing food adulteration cases, the Chief Minister directed authorities to install CCTV cameras in the kitchens of all hotels in the city and connect them to the command control centre. To ensure food safety, frequent inspections needed to be conducted and monitored continuously, he said. Steps should also be taken to evaluate food safety measures adopted by hotels and assign ratings to them, he added.
Reddy also instructed officials to give high priority to fire safety in the core urban area. The necessary advanced equipment and technology needed to be provided to prevent fire mishaps in high-rise buildings, he said.
The Chief Minister also suggested installing water harvesting wells in various circles of the city to preserve rainwater.
To ensure proper maintenance of roads, the Chief Minister ordered the officials that all roads under the jurisdiction of the R&B and other departments in the core urban area be transferred to the Municipal Administration and Urban Development department to end confusion over road ownership among different agencies.
Revanth Reddy also directed officials to examine proposals to develop buildings of historical importance into tourist spots and convert them into popular tourist destinations.
Reviewing the progress of works on new government buildings within the limits of Bharat Future City, the Chief Minister instructed officials to complete the works before the deadline by obtaining necessary permissions. He said quality should be given top priority in construction and necessary steps should be taken for the development of large ponds and lakes in the city.
