The Telangana government will bring in a new fisheries development policy soon and spend Rs 1,000 crores for the welfare and development of fishermen in the state by involving the private sector.
This was conveyed by Animal Husbandry Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav today.
Fish seed will be dropped towards the end of this month afresh in the lakes, ponds and other water bodies. 80 crore fish seed will be dropped against the 51 crore fish seed last time.
Yadav said that the fish scheme was giving positive results and developing the fishermen community on a whole. Fishermen had gotten meagre funds in united AP, and the TRS government had launched the scheme to develop them like never before, he claimed.
"The fish-dropping program will be videographed for transparency and to avoid irregularities. The government is distributing the fish seed itself fully, and avoiding any involvement of private persons. We are also providing 75% to 100% subsidy to fishermen to get vehicles to sell their produce in the market. The scheme has so far helped 1.70 lakh families directly and 3 lakh families indirectly," he said.
The minister said that the government had got Rs 8 crores in revenue last year against a Rs 1.34-crore investment in fisheries development and also Rs 28 crores through free distribution of shrimp.
