Telangana's ambitious fine rice distribution scheme, implemented through fair price shops, is touted to have set a new benchmark in ensuring food security for the economically disadvantaged sections of the society.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy took the initiative a step further by launching a program named Lunch With Beneficiary Families, in the Sarapaka village, Burgampadu mandal, Bhadradri Kothagudem district.
Following his participation in the Sri Rama Navami celebrations at the renowned Sita Ramachandraswamy temple in Bhadrachalam, the Chief Minister visited the home of Buram Srinivas, a beneficiary of the scheme.
Reddy shared a traditional lunch with the family and engaged in a candid conversation about their living conditions.
When asked about the quality of rice, homemaker Tulasamma said the family no longer preferred the coarse rice that was previously supplied, and expressed delight over the high-quality fine rice now delivered through the Public Distribution System, which she said the family enjoyed.
She thanked the Chief Minister for making fine rice available to poor families at an affordable price every month.
The CM also inquired about other welfare schemes, including 200 units of free electricity and subsidised cooking gas cylinders at Rs 500. Tulasamma expressed gratitude for them, and said that the free bus travel had been especially beneficial, easing both mobility and household budgets.
