The first phase of the 2025 panchayat elections has delivered a strong warning to the Revanth Reddy government, claimed BRS MLC Dasoju Sravan today.
Addressing a press conference at Telangana Bhavan, Sravan, while pointing to the results from 4,236 gram panchayats that went to the polls, said that the outcome reflected a growing wave of rural resentment against the Congress administration.
Despite the traditionally high advantage enjoyed by ruling parties in local body elections, the BRS winning 1,345 sarpanch seats signalled a clear rejection of the Chief Minister's governance, he claimed.
The BRS leader alleged that rural voters had strongly pushed back against the Congress' inducement politics and theatrics, delivering what he described as an emphatic slap through their votes. He praised BRS candidates for resisting "enormous pressure, threats and money power", and called their performance a victory for democracy.
Sravan cited several key losses for the Congress, including Polkampalli, a village adjacent to Chief Minister Revanth Reddy's native Kondareddypally, and Eturunagaram, represented by Congress MLA Seethakka. He also pointed to the defeat of Congress MLA Murali Naik's sister-in-law in Mahabubabad and the subsequent controversy over attempts to recover money allegedly distributed to voters.
He also alleged irregularities in the Congress victory in Jubilee Hills, calling it an insult to democratic values.
He also accused the Chief Minister of misusing public funds while claiming a shortage of money for welfare schemes, specifically criticising the alleged Rs 100-crore expenditure on the "Messi vs Mesthri" entertainment event at the Uppal stadium including the destruction of the cricket pitch, and the alleged diversion of Singareni funds.
Sravan predicted that public anger against the Congress would intensify in the upcoming phases of the panchayat polls, and urged the BRS cadre to stay united to ensure a "decisive verdict" in the next rounds.
