Telangana Congress leaders, including Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, ministers and MLAs, participated in the "Chalo Raj Bhavan" protest today over the Adani issue.
The protest was organized by the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) under the leadership of its president Mahesh Kumar Goud following a call given by the All India Congress Committee (AICC).
During the protest, Congress leaders in large numbers marched on foot from Necklace Road to the Raj Bhavan, raising slogans against industrialist Gautam Adani and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. They demanded a discussion on the issue in Parliament.
Speaking at the event, the Chief Minister alleged that Adani's companies had been involved in offering bribes in the United States, prompting action by the US government.
"Adani has tarnished the country's image, and there must be an investigation into him. A Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) should conduct an enquiry into this matter," Reddy said.
"The Centre is unwilling to discuss Adani's corruption or form a JPC because if it does Adani will end up in jail. Prime Minister Modi is trying to shield him. But if a JPC is not formed we will stage a dharna at Rashtrapati Bhavan," he added.
The Chief Minister also accused the BRS of colluding with the BJP to avoid arrests of its leaders in various cases, which was why he said the party was remaining silent on Adani's corruption.
"Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BRS president K Chandrashekar Rao are no different. They are two sides of the same coin. If the BRS is sincere, it should demand a JPC investigation into Adani's corruption," Revanth Reddy said.
He warned that if Prime Minister Modi continued to remain silent, Congress leaders would intensify their protests and stage a dharna at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
