BRS working president K T Rama Rao today urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to address alleged corruption in Telangana's AMRUT tender process.
A delegation led by KTR and BRS MPs met Union Urban Development Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Monday, and submitted a formal request for an inquiry into and the cancellation of the AMRUT tenders, claiming that the tenders had been awarded to family members of the Chief Minister and other ministers. Khattar assured them that action would be taken on the alleged corruption, and requested time until the upcoming Parliament sessions to gather information and initiate appropriate measures.
Speaking to the media, he said that while the Prime Minister had previously accused Telangana of being an "ATM" for the Congress for elections in other States, he had not taken any steps to actually curb the Congress government's corruption in Telangana.
He said that accusations against Rahul Gandhi and Revanth Reddy in Telangana were insufficient without corresponding action, and called for immediate intervention, saying that the BRS had already submitted substantial evidence of corruption related to the AMRUT tenders to the Union government.
KTR calling the situation a "litmus test" for the BJP's commitment to eradicating Congress-related corruption, and said that if the allegations made by BJP leaders and PM Modi held any merit, action should follow.
"If the Central government fails to address the corruption in the AMRUT tenders during the Parliament session, we will raise this issue in Parliament, particularly in the Rajya Sabha," KTR said (the BRS has no members in the Lok Sabha).
