The Congress today held a massive sit-in protest in front of the ED office condemning the "attitude" of the union government in "harassing" its party president Sonia Gandhi in "the name of interrogation".
Congress activists led by TPCC president Revanth Reddy also held a massive rally from the statue of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on Necklace Road to the ED office in Basheer Bagh.
CLP leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, TPCC publicity committee chairman and former MP Madhu Yaski Goud, party MLC T Jeevan Reddy, AICC programs committee chairman A Maheshwar Reddy, party leaders Ponnala Lakshmaiah and V Hanumantha Rao, former ministers Geeta Reddy, Shabbir Ali and Marri Shashidhar Reddy, and several other prominent leaders of the party took part in the rally.
Thousands of party activists took part in the dharna leading to a massive traffic jam in front of the ED office.
Speaking on the occasion, Revanth Reddy said that the issuance of notices to Sonia Gandhi by the ED asking her to appear before it was nothing but a witch-hunting act of the union government
He said that the whole of Telangana was standing with Sonia Gandhi. He said the Congress was in power during 2004-2014 under the leadership of Sonia Gandhi, and was responsible for several revolutionary laws like the Right To Education, Right To Information, Food Security and MGNREGS acts. He added that Sonia Gandhi had also fulfilled the long-pending and cherished dream of the people of Telangana by making the region a separate State.
He called upon all those who believed in democracy to condemn the "vindictive" acts of the ED and the union government against Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.
CLP leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka said that the union government was trying to ensure that there was no Opposition party in the country by misusing the ED and the CBI.
The police made elaborate security arrangements to avoid any untoward incidents.
