Chief Minister Revanth Reddy today offered condolences over the death of former West Bengal chief minister and CPM leader Buddhadeb Bhattacharya.
In a post on X, the Chief Minister recalled Bhattacharya's 11 years as Chief Minister and his five decades of public service, and called him a pillar of righteousness.
He conveyed his condolences to the family members of the former chief minister and the CPM community.
Buddhadeb Bhattacharya (80), who had been suffering from age-related ailments for some time, died at his residence in Kolkata today.
A CPI(M) leader, Bhattacharjee assumed office as the Chief Minister of West Bengal in 2000, succeeding party elder Jyoti Basu.
In the 2011 Assembly elections Bhattacharya was defeated by the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress, marking the end of the CPI(M)-led Left Front's 34-year-long governance in the State.
