Close on the heels of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu complaining against his Telangana counterpart K Chandrashekar Rao on the phone tapping and note-for-vote issues, Governor E S L Narasimhan on Thursday called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi.
The Governor of the two Telugu states was closeted with the Prime Minister for some time and briefed him on the Revanth Reddy case that has plunged the TDP government into a crisis, and on the political slugfest between Naidu and KCR.
The meeting assumes significance in the wake of a section of the media in the national capital and Hyderabad writing stories that Naidu sought immediate replacement of Narasimhan. A belligerent Naidu also resorted in Delhi to claiming that the TRS government would collapse instantly if KCR got him arrested in the case.
Though it is unclear what the Governor touched upon in his meeting with Modi, it was being stated that the Centre was cool to the pressure being mounted by Naidu to order an inquiry into the allegations of phone tapping by the TRS government.
The Centre is understood to have asked the Governor to restrict things to Hyderabad itself and not let them reach New Delhi, and ignore for the time being the Section 8 of the A P Reorganisation Act that gives him vast powers in the common capital area with regard to law and order. (NSS)
